Scientists from Texas have developed new two-layer insoles for people with diabetes, redistributing the load on different parts of the foot. They help prevent ulcers that can lead to amputation of toes or other parts of the feet. Medical Xpress writes about it.
Diabetic foot ulcers appear due to the fact that a person due to numbness of the legs may not notice injuries that form in the heel or toe area. Then a deadly infection can appear in the wound and lead to tissue loss.
To prevent ulcers, people with diabetes can use special insoles - they help relieve tension in the legs.
The shoe insert, designed by the Wijesundara team, regulates and redistributes long-term stress on the foot with a fluid-filled cell liner.
The insole adapts to the foot of a particular person and is designed for people of different weights. It can also replace a plaster cast while a foot ulcer is healing.
